The Entertainment Guide

The Palace Theatre

The Palace Theatre began life as a corn exchange, way back in 1863, designed by James Ingram. It was later converted to become a 500 seat theatre in 1903, opening its doors to culture seekers and remains an A-listed building. Open throughout the year, the theatre is an entertainment centre for those of all ages, boasting a stunning facade and impressive interior. It hosts a popular annual panto, as well live performance genres including music, comedy, drama and dance. Spot up-and-coming stand-up talent at monthly shows in the bar, or keep an eye on the ever-changing programme to catch top touring productions, as well as local ones. The box office is open daily, or buy your tickets online. The cafe and bar is a social hub for interval drinks, or just for a coffee, cake and a catch up with friends.

Returned to the Palace for a gig I was keen to see. Seating is comfortable enough, view was uninterrupted so I could see the stage fine. Only grumble is not enough toilets but for a small venue that’s something which won’t change anytime soon! All in all a great wee theatre and well-run.
